Baby Quilts

These are the quilts that The Pedal Pushers (of the STL Metro Area) and I donated this month....

This cutie was made by Bernice.  She did all of the piecing and quilting.  It's perfect for a little baby boy (and we are always in need of boy quilts...we just don't get as many as girls').
Baby Quilt #1 (Bernice)
Next up is a beautiful girlie quilt pieced by Susan.  What a fun pattern to use up those jelly roll strips! The design was so cute, it needed simple quilting, so I just quilted a meandering loop all over.
Baby Quilt #2 (Susan)
This last one was our Pedal Pushers group project headed up by Janet.  We each made snowball and 4-patch blocks and Janet pieced them up and quilted it into this cute design!  She sees it as a road for playing cars (I see a curling caterpillar)...I wonder what the lucky little boy who gets this cuddly quilt will see!
Baby Quilt #3 (Janet)
This month, all 3 quilts were donated to the Soldier Babies for Newborns at Ft. Leonard Wood GLWACH.

Ring Around The Hexies

This has been one of the most fun projects ever!

I love handwork, but I don't love projects that take years to produce results.  This quilt was a perfect blend of scrappy piecing and spurts of handwork...and better yet, it didn't take forever!

I started a few months ago making the background designed by Bonnie Hunter (one of my favorites, as you all know).  This was finished before I went on a retreat and took a class with Mickey Dupre for the pieced Hexie portion.  The original pattern did not include the 2 borders, but I wanted to make it at least a lap-sized throw quilt.

Then, I added the pieced hexies fleurettes I made during Mickey's class.  Man, were they fun to do!

Then, came the quilting...no one told me I wasn't supposed to quilt over top of the fleurettes once they were appliqued down (until the first time I showed it in public).  Ooops!  Well, the quilting went smoothly and I like the results, so I'm guessing no harm done.
Ring Around the Hexies (quilting on back)
...and here's the backing...pieced chunks of all the leftover fabrics from the front, complete with hanging sleeve and label!

Q3 2015 Goals

I am really enjoying my first year participating in the Finish-a-long!  I love that these blog sew-alongs give me a little push to finish up projects that have long been in the UFO pile or on the to-do list!  And of course...it gives me something more to blog about!

So, for last quarter, here's how I did...4/15...not too great.  Oh well...  I was surprised with a chance to make display quilts for a local quilt shop, so I did do one of those (and am planning to make several others in the upcoming months).  And of course, as soon as summer rolls around...it seems many other things take priority!

Here are my new goals for this quarter...most of which were shifted from the Q2 list since I didn't end up working on them.  This month will also be busy with helping my mom to finish up 2 of her projects (a row by row from a few years ago and her Road to STL quilt).   On top of that, I'll continue quilting charity projects for out little sewing group to send to our Wounded Warriors transition unit and for the little Soldier Babies!

July UFO Goals

As predicted, this is turning out to be a busy summer...not a single quilty project was finished last month!  Oh well, I did help my mom work on a couple of her projects and will continue to do that this month.  As usual, lots to do, and lots more I want to do, therefore, I'm setting 2 quilty goals for this month:  Ring Around the Hexies - Collaboration Celebration & Women of the Bible.
Ring Around the Hexies (A Collaboration Celebration by Mickey Dupre & Bonnie Hunter)
I've already shared this picture a few times.  I neglected to take a picture of it before I loaded it on the longarm, but now it has hexie rosettes appliques into the centers of all that blank space.   Hopefully I can quilt this one up quick and move on to the next project....
Women of the Bible (before borders were added)
Last month I had a chance to get all of the setting blocks between the 40 blocks in my Women of the Bible BOW.  The borders were also added after I took the pictures above.  Once the backing is pieced, this one will be ready to be quilted right after the Collaboration Celebration quilt!

Q3 (Jul-Sep 15) List:
1.  Women of the Bible
2.  Barn Quilt
3.  4-Patch Revisited
4.  Crumb Along
