Pink Spools

I've decided to only post an RSC15 update once each month (probably closer to the end of the month) since the two projects I'm working on in the rainbow scrap challenge colors are both spool block quilts, one more traditional and one a bit more "realistic."  I don't want my readers to get too bored with the same images and tidbits of progress.  So, here they are in their scrappy glory, February's PINK spools....

Puppy Quilts!

So excited to report a couple more finishes for this week (actually, these were technically finished last week, but I neglected to post!?!!?)!
Baylee & her new quilt "Visions of Nylabones"
My friend Debbie was here and she gifted me a pile of doggie prints a while ago.  I wanted to make a pair of quilts for the dogs to lay on in my sewing studio since they are always laying on the batting hung over the longarm or they jump on any chance to test out a quilt top that I'm measuring on the floor!  So, while Debbie was here, I paired my gifted fabrics with some from my stash and I got to work with a couple of "too easy" patterns that I thought it would be fun to just play with, ya know, just to say I had!
Baylee's Quilt "Visions of Nylabones"
Baylee's Quilt (back)
Baylee's Quilt, "Visions of Nylabones," is just a simple sticks pattern.  It was fun to just cut a bunch of rectangles and strips and piece this one together.  I got the idea from Debbie - my old MO guild did something similar as a block exchange last year!
Suki's Quilt "Treat Dreams"
Suki's Quilt (back)
Suki's Quilt, "Treat Dreams," is a Jelly Roll Race variation that I have seen using solid squares between the strips.  Again, it was fun to just play with an easy pattern on a small scale, just to say I've done a JRR.
Suki & her new quilt "Treat Dreams"
I quilted both quilts with a simple loopy meander in a green thread.  Both quilts incorporate most of the same fabrics (the greens are the only fabrics that are different in each quilt).  I used up just about every last bit of the puppy fabrics when I decided to use it up on the backs and bindings!  I love when that happens!

WW & W

WIP Wednesday & a Winner (from the Grow Your Blog 2015 blog hop)!

First, my WIP for this Wednesday is a small 18" table topper for my in-law's 45th anniversary.  My father-in-law called and requested that I make a sapphire (apparently the jewel of a 45 year marriage) wedding ring 18" quilt.  It's not going great, but here's the progress...
Wedding Ring paper piecing sketch
I started by trying to make this easy.  I sketched out a pattern on paper thinking a paper pieced version would be the quickest way to dive in...I didn't have a pattern, so the paper and pencil got a workout!
Wedding Ring top on the longarm
Then, I pieced it.  Apparently I didn't get the exact pattern papers in just the right spots, because some of the sections didn't line up perfectly...grrrr....but, I'm going to quilt the heck out of the little thing.  I'll practice a bit of custom design and hope to heck that the messy joins are a little less noticeable.

That's my Work In Progress....and now...the winner from the blog hop (yes, I know I'm late...very late...)...
The winner this year is Melissa!  Melissa, I'll be sending you a message this week to get your mailing address...be on the lookout!

WOTB Update

***If you are here for the 2 Bags Full blog party, please visit my post "Grow Your Blog 2015 & Giveaway!"

Just a quick look at what just came down off of my design wall.  I'm still plugging away at my Women of the Bible blocks that are being offered as a free Block of the Week through the Hoppin' Bobbin Facebook page.
Women of the Bible:  blocks 1-22
I'm noticing that I need to incorporate a bit more of that burnt orange.  The few blocks that have orange in them are still looking a bit disconnected (row 2 blocks 2&6, row 3 block 1, & row 4 block 2).  Otherwise, I think I am happy with my very out of the box color combination!
Women of the Bible:  blocks 23-25
I played a little catch up this week, once the previous blocks came down off of the design wall, so now I'm caught up with block #s 23-25!  Today there are supposed to be 2 new patterns posted and then we'll get a break for next week.  This is a good time for those who are a bit behind to try to get up to date!

February UFO Goals

***If you are here for the 2 Bags Full blog party, please visit my post "Grow Your Blog 2015 & Giveaway!"

This month, I'm setting a couple of  goals, which should be quite easy to achieve.

1.  Finish up Grand Illusion - I'm waiting on the backing fabric to arrive.  Still to do is:  Make binding, piece backing, quilt and bind.
Grand Illusion (Top)
2.  Make a Wedding Ring 18x18" Table Topper - This is a request from my father-in-law for my husband's parents celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary.  I'm thinking I'll create a paper-pieced pattern in sapphire and white.

Maybe with such easy goals for this month, I'll be able to knock a couple more off of my Q1 list as well!  So, here's where I stand on my goals for this quarter (Q1 Jan-Mar 15)...
1.  RWB Charming Stars
2.  RWB Irish Chain
3.  4-Patch Revisited
4.  Suki Dog Quilt
5.  Baylee Dog Quilt
6.  Easter Basket Wall Hanging
7.  Rustic Stars
8.  Kayla's Basket Weave Quilt
9.  Grand Illusion
10. A Prairie Women project
